How is child support determined in North Carolina?

North Carolina has adopted child support guidelines. The guidelines apply to all cases where the combined gross income of the parents does not exceed $25,000 monthly ($300,000 annually). For those cases where the combined gross income of the parents exceeds this sum, the guidelines merely establish a minimum and many other factors have to be considered in setting child support. Even when the guidelines apply, the court may deviate from them in appropriate cases.
